Acceptable Use Policy

This policy applies to everyone who uses https://www.luxa.org and forms part of our Terms of Use. It exists because some of our tools can be pointed at content that belongs to other people, and we want to be direct about where the line sits.

The short version

Our tools are provided for lawful use with content you have the right to use. You are responsible for what you do with them. We provide a general-purpose utility; the decision about which file or which page to point it at is entirely yours, and so is the responsibility for that decision.

Uses we intend to support

Our video link tool exists because there are many legitimate reasons to want a local copy of media you can already lawfully watch. It is intended for:

  • Content you created or uploaded yourself — retrieving your own posts from a platform, or recovering work after losing the original file.
  • Content you have explicit permission from the rights holder to save.
  • Content published under a licence that permits reuse, such as Creative Commons, or content in the public domain.
  • Content licensed to you or produced for you, such as footage you commissioned.
  • Use that falls within fair use, fair dealing, or an equivalent exception under the law that applies to you — journalism, criticism, commentary, quotation, teaching, research, accessibility or archival work.
  • Personal, private, time-shifted viewing where the law that applies to you permits it.

Uses that are not permitted

You must not use this Site or any tool on it to:

  • Reproduce, republish, redistribute, broadcast, sell or otherwise commercially exploit content you do not own or have permission to use.
  • Re-upload another person's video to any platform, whether or not you credit them.
  • Remove, obscure or crop out a creator's watermark, attribution, credit or branding.
  • Circumvent digital rights management, encryption, a paywall, a subscription, a geographic restriction, an age gate, or any other technical or contractual access control.
  • Access content that is private, restricted, or intended for a limited audience that you are not part of.
  • Build a library, archive, dataset or corpus of third-party content, including for the purpose of training machine learning models.
  • Access the Site through automated means — scripts, scrapers, bots, headless browsers or bulk tooling — or attempt bulk or high-volume extraction of any kind.
  • Interfere with the Site's operation, place unreasonable load on our infrastructure, or attempt to bypass any rate limit or other protective measure.
  • Do anything unlawful under the law that applies to you, or anything that infringes the rights of any third party.

Your responsibility and your warranty

By using our tools you confirm that you own the content you are working with, have the rights holder's permission, or have another lawful basis for your use. We do not review, verify or monitor what you point our tools at, and we are not in a position to judge whether a particular use is lawful in your circumstances or your country. That judgment is yours to make before you act.

You are solely responsible for any consequence of your use of this Site, and you agree to indemnify us against any claim arising from your breach of this policy.

Platform terms are separate from ours

Downloading from a third-party service may breach that service's own terms of use, independently of whether it breaches copyright law. YouTube, for example, permits offline saving only through features YouTube itself provides. Our giving you a technical means to do something does not make it permitted under a platform's contract with you, and we make no representation that it does. You should read and follow the terms of any platform you use.

What we do and do not do

We host no content. Our video link tool asks a platform which media addresses a page publishes and passes those addresses to your browser; any file then travels directly between you and that platform's servers. We do not download, store, cache, re-encode, index or serve media, and we retain no record of the addresses submitted.

We do not accept, store or use credentials, cookies or session tokens for any third-party service, and our tools are not built to defeat access controls. Content behind a login, a paywall, an age gate or DRM is out of reach here by design.

Enforcement

We may restrict, rate-limit, suspend or permanently block access to the Site, at any time and without notice, where we believe this policy has been breached. We terminate access for anyone who repeatedly uses the Site in connection with infringement of intellectual property rights. Where we are required to do so by law, or by a valid order from a competent authority, we will cooperate with rights holders and law enforcement.

Reporting misuse

Changes

We may update this policy as our tools change or as the law develops. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
